Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers are clear gels designed to rejuvenate the areas of the face that have lost volume. They can also be used to treat fine lines and to hydrate the skin. The most commonly used dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural compound that aids in the production of collagen and elastin.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural water-binding substance that can be found all over the body, 50% being found in our skin. It can be found in the highest concentrations in skin, connective tissue, and eyes. Its main function is to retain water to keep the tissues in the body well lubricated. As we grow older the hyaluronic acid in our body depletes. When our bodies produce less collagen our cells can no longer hold enough water and collagen itself degenerates, leading to loss of skin elasticity.

What areas can be treated with Dermal Filler?

Lips

Restoring volume and adding shape to the lips might be today's most well-known use for Dermal Fillers.

Correct the shape of their lips (It's common for our lips to be asymmetrical.)

Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial folds are the indentations on either side of the mouth that extend from the edge of the nose to the outer corners. These lines become more prominent when smiling (sometimes known as laugh lines or smile lines). The folds which are made of dense bundles of fibrous tissue and muscles tend to become more prominent with age. As the skin becomes saggy and thinner, many people find that their nasolabial folds become more visible. Dermal Filler injected into this area can make the nasolabial folds less noticeable.

Chin & Jawline

Dermal Filler injected into the chin can help add proportion or fullness to the chin if it is on the smaller side, and can help balance out or elongate an asymmetric jawline. They can also alter the contour and definition of the chin. It is a popular procedure for people who are self-conscious about their side profile and want a more balanced facial structure. Chin and jawline fillers can create a stronger jawline, making the facial profile appear sharper and more sculpted.
